Welcome to ’Uiha

In the centre of 'Uiha village is a large, elevated burial ground containing several royal tombs, once the official burial ground of the Tongan royal family until they moved to Nuku’alofa. At the village church are two cannons, souvenirs taken from a Peruvian blackbirding (slaving) ship that was attacked and destroyed by the locals in 1863.

A day trip to the island is good fun. Talk to the Pangai Visitor Information Centre about boat transport, or see if the folks at Ha'apai Beach Resort will ship you here.
