England, Wales and Scotland 8-Day Small-Group Britain Tour

Day one takes us into the Cotswolds, first to Cirencester, then on to some of the smaller villages. We’ll continue on to Ironbridge, a village perched on the River Severn. Our overnight stop is the pretty English city of Chester. After a leisurely start in Chester, we’ll then head west to Wales to drive the Llanberis Pass and revel in the mountainous scenery. Snowdonia National Park is full of wild landscapes. We’ll also visit Conwy, a walled market town home to Conwy Castle*. You can explore narrow cobbled streets and take in views of the Thomas Telford Suspension Bridge that leads up to the Castle before we return to Chester. Today is The Peak District National Park. We’ll stop in the town of Buxton, then make our way to Bakewell. Another highlight is the stately home of Chatsworth House - set in idyllic gardens. We’ll spend our third evening in York. A day to explore York. You can choose what you‘d like to visit, perhaps York Minster*, or the Shambles. The day is free for you to do as you please with an optional walking tour. You’ll say goodbye to York, and meet your new travel companions and driver-guide as we make our way north to stop at the market town of Richmond, it’s a short walk to the Castle from the centre of town, or you can enjoy afternoon tea and a wander. We then head to Alnwick, where you can opt to visit the beautiful Alnwick Castle* or explore the town of Alnwick itself. We continue up the East Coast before we reach the city of Edinburgh. You’ll have an evening in Edinburgh to enjoy the city before you begin your journey north.  We journey through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, offering stunning views of the UK’s largest expanse of fresh water. We will cross the brooding expanse of Rannoch Moor and journey through Glen Coe where you will learn the brutal story of the MacDonald Clan massacre and take in the weeping waterfalls that inhabit this incredible glen. We will also enjoy a stop at Eilean Donan*. Here you have the chance to take photographs and explore the castle. Then it’s time to cross the bridge to Skye for your overnight stop. Enjoy a full day exploring the Isle of Skye. Your guide will ensure you get the most out of your day and enjoy sights such as the craggy Cuillin Mountains, the Trotternish Peninsula, Kilt Rock and Mealt Waterfall, the Old Man of Storr and the Iron Age Dun Beag Broch. Portree is your lunch time stop, before heading back to your accommodation for a second evening. You’ll visit the most famous Loch in the entire world, Loch Ness. You can tour Urquhart Castle then hop on a Jacobite Cruise to Nessie spot on the loch itself. Our next stop is at Culloden Battlefield. We’ll then continue south to Pitlochry; a pretty town perched next to the River Tummel, before returning to Edinburgh.

Private 5 Day tour to the Highlands & Islands

Day 1 Dunfermline to visit the 11th Century Abbey and Royal Palace, then through Highland Perthshire (Macbeth country). Back on the road we'll head up through the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains to Clava Cairns for a visit then up to Culloden Battlefield. Day 2 Depart our B&B for the Isle of Skye, through Glen Shiel to Eilean Donan Castle for a visit/comfort stop. Continuing we "drive across The Atlantic" on the Skye Bridge, time will dictate our programme on Skye. We then head for Armadale and take the 45 minute sailing back to the mainland, driving through Glenfinnan towards Fort William. Day 3 and South along the banks of Loch Linnhe and Glencoe for a photo stop and two nights in Oban. Day 4 spent on Mull & Iona. Day 5 Along the banks of Loch Long and into MacGregor country. Scottish Highlands Private 3-Day Tour from Edinburgh

Day 1 Depart Edinburgh around 8 am, travelling north to Dunfermline (one of our ancient Capitals) stopping to visit the 11th Century Abbey and ruined Royal Palace to visit the tomb of King Robert I (“The Bruce”). Up and through Highland Perthshire (Macbeth country), stopping at Dunkeld to visit the 12th Century Cathedral and have a coffee break.Heading back on the road we’ll head up to the “Pass of Killiecrankie” where a battle was fought during the Jacobite wars in 1689, continuing northwards we’ll pass Blair Castle and travel through the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains and arrive at Clava Cairns dating from the Stone and Bronze ages for a visit. We will then head up to Culloden Battlefield for our last visit of the day. It was on the moor that the last battle of any significance to be fought in Britain took place on the 16th April 1746. Then it’s off to the hotel for your well-earned dram and a relaxing evening. Day 2Depart our hotel around 0830 am, travelling South West our destination is the Isle of Skye, en route we travel almost the full length of Loch Ness, stopping for photographs at the ruins of Castle Urquhart (and possibly Nessie?), then we cut West through Glen Shiel and towards Eilean Donan Castle for a visit/comfort stop. Continuing our journey we “drive across The Atlantic” on the Skye Bridge and onto the Island, time will dictate our programme on Skye. We then head for the little port of Armadale and take the 45 minute crossing back to the mainland and drive through Glenfinnan towards Fort William and our overnight accommodation.Day 3Depart our hotel around 0830 am and continue our journey South.  We head along the banks of Loch Linne and into Glencoe, the setting for one of our blackest chapters in Clan warfare in February 1692, after a photo stop we continue Southwards up and over the Rannoch Moor, one of the last great wildernesses in Europe. Travelling down and through Balquhidder, we enter MacGregor country famous for Rob Roy and our last comfort stop of the day at the Victorian village of Callander (noted in history for the Romans, Rob Roy and the tragic Earl of Callander). Continuing our journey we drive through the village of Doune and its exceptional 13th Century Motte and Bailey Castle, noted for Robert Duke of Albany, David Stirling, Monty Python & The Holy Grail and more recently Outlander. Finally reaching the main motorway we drive past Stirling Castle, the battlefields of Bannockburn and the ruins of Linlithgow Palace before arriving back in Edinburgh around 8 pm.
