Maneki

Top choice in Pioneer Square, International District & SoDo

For an unforgettable dining experience make a reservation for one of Maneki's tatami mat dining rooms (paper and wood lattice private chambers with seating on the floor) and feast on a meal of traditional Japanese cuisine and sake. The fish here is legendarily fresh and the bar (open until midnight) is full of friendly conversation.

Maneki opened in 1904 and in its original iteration was a three-story mega-restaurant that served 500 people a night on the weekends. It has downsized quite a bit since, but feels no less authentic and extraordinary.

It's recommended that reservations for the tatami mat rooms, which hold four to 10 people, be made at least two weeks in advance.
