Maubesi Market

West Timor

Maubesi is home to the Kefa regency’s best textile market. Market day is Thursday, when ikat is displayed beneath tamarind trees, along with produce, animals and pottery. Natural dye is the most prized and pieces can fetch between 1,000,000Rp and 5,000,000Rp, depending on the technique. Some take over six months to make.

Maubesi is 19km from Kefa and the market is located near Maubesi Art Shop, on the opposite side of the main highway. Ask a local to point you in the right direction.
