Behind 2km of Belongil dunes, with its own section of sand, Byron's biggest resort is home to over 200 private villas nestled in coastal bushland. While none have ocean views, some do sit beside a lagoon. There's an adults-only pool, and some villas have almost Japanese-style bathhouses.

Everything was built and is maintained to eco-principles, including the replacement of in room water bottles with filtered water on tap. Despite its size, it feels part of the coastal habitat. And if the relative remoteness worries you, remember it's not far to walk into town via the beach (rather than the road), or you can hop on on the part Elements-funded solar-powered train at North Beach Station (adults $4).
