Banff’s massive campground is split over three separate ‘villages’ halfway up the slope of Tunnel Mountain, offering 1149 reservable sites. It fills to capacity in summer thanks to its convenient location just minutes from downtown Banff. With its many trees, it's not as grim as it sounds, but if you're truly after tranquility, you might want to look elsewhere.
All three areas – Tunnel Mountain I with its 618 tent sites, Tunnel Mountain II with 21 oTENTiks (platform tents sleeping up to six people) and 188 RV sites offering electrical hookups, and the full-service Tunnel Mountain Trailer court with 322 sites – have flush toilets, proper showers and wheelchair-accessible sites. Part of it is open during winter, too, so if you're keen to sleep under canvas at -20°C, you can do it here. Free shuttle-bus service into Banff is available to all campers.
