Nairobi

The ‘Madhouse’ (or 'Maddi' to its friends) is arguably the most famous of all Nairobi's nightclubs, although a few changes of venue over recent years have seen it settle into mainstream respectability while others have taken up the mantle. The music ranges from jazz to the customary weekend mishmash of Western and African pop.

Whatever night you choose, it’s usually mayhem, crammed with bruisers, cruisers, hookers, hustlers and curious tourists, but it’s great fun if you’re in the right mood (or just very drunk).
