Lake Yellowstone Hotel

Top choice in Yellowstone National Park

Commanding the northern lakeshore, this buttercup-yellow colonial behemoth sets romantics aflutter. It harks back to a bygone era, though the rooms that cost $4 in 1895 have appreciated somewhat. Lakeside rooms cost extra, sell out first and don’t guarantee lake views. Small cottages have rooms with two double beds. Internet access is wired only, and available in main hotel rooms.

The Sandpiper annex (a former women's dorm building) lacks the grace of the main building, but rooms are comfortable and more economical. King-bed rooms here are slightly larger. The cottages behind the Sandpiper are now part of Lake Lodge, though they're still maintained by Lake Yellowstone Hotel. The hotel boasts a Green Seal gold rating for sustainability.

Everyone, including non-guests, is welcome to relax in the sprawling and inviting sunroom overlooking the lake.
