Sumbiling Eco Village

Top choice in Brunei Darussalam

Run as a partnership between Borneo Guide and the local Iban community, this blissfully laid-back jungle retreat offers accommodation in ecofriendly riverside tents and cabins, sprawling across a peaceful durian orchard, with guided jungle walks, cooking classes, blowpipe competitions, inner tubing and other activities arranged by Iban villagers. In between, you can sit back in a hammock and watch the Sungai Temburong slide by. Day trips (per person from US$95) here are also possible.

It's a commendable example of effective community based tourism, and visitors will almost feel part of the extended family. Most people visit as part of a package including a riverboat trip to nearby Ulu Temburong National Park. The owners also offer overnight stays at jungle camps in the rainforest. Prices include transport from Bangar jetty, tasty meals and activities.
