Austrian Hospice

Jerusalem

Stepping into this gated complex feels like discovering a treasure. This castle-like guesthouse first opened in 1863, and its gardens, archways and stone walls ooze history. Private rooms are simply furnished but large and come with good beds. Single-sex dorms are in the basement, where there are also squeaky-clean shared bathrooms. There's a €7 surcharge for one-night stays.

The cloistered garden is a popular retreat for guests, while the on-site Viennese Café is a convenient spot for cake and coffee. Half-board is available for an additional €18 per person.

The hospice is on the corner of Al Wad St and Via Dolorosa. Ring the intercom to enter.
