There’s a festival dedicated entirely to pugs in England

If the thought of an arena full of adorable, wrinkly-faced wonders makes your heart beat faster, there’s a red carpet festival dedicated entirely to pugs this summer in England. The Piazza at Media City in Manchester will be a glittering affair on 16 July, as the TV and film-themed Pugfest Manchester gets underway.

As the adorable pooches walk the red carpet to this glam event, they may be papped by the paparazzi (poocherazzi?). They will also have the opportunity to compete in an Oscars-type dog show. There will be a star-studded Very Important Pug area where pets and owners can mingle with doggie-loving celebrities. It will have dog treats, a chill-out zone, and gin and tonic or afternoon tea for the owners.

It could be case of puppy love as things hot up at the kissing booth during the event. It’s not all glitz and glam though, as sporty pugs can test their ability on the agility course or doggie dash racing game. You and your beloved pooch can have your picture taken at the glamorous photo booth, enjoy exciting rides and games, and munch on yummy treats from the food vendors. While you don’t have to own a pug to attend, any other breed of dog apart from pugs or pug crosses won’t be allowed in.

Pugfest is currently looking for volunteers to help run the festival, and it also has fringe festivals running the UK this summer. Tickets for Pugfest 2017 cost £8 per adult and £5 for children, and the canine stars of the show go free. For further information, see here.
