Pietro Nolita, a Pepto Bismol pink eatery in downtown Manhattan, was dreamed up by Pietro Quaglia and Mina Soliman. When envisioning the interiors, the duo, who met while working for fashion label Dolce and Gabbana, decided to execute the 1950s-style diner in the perfect hue of pink.
To compliment a menu which offers light and healthy Italian fare, they looked to glamorous pastel-tinted interior design and decor seen in Italy’s Portofino, Camogli and Venice regions. Tongue in cheek, they also added details such as the ‘Pink As F*ck’ paper napkins which go down a treat with customers. “Pink has always been in vogue. It’s an elegant and chic color if used correctly,” Quaglia told Lonely Planet. “It means joy, happiness, love, peacefulness and tranquillity.”
The Milanese native is certainly bringing joy to Instagram feeds with his colorful interior. From the potted succulents to the logo-wallpapered bathrooms, customers can barely wait until they’ve finished their last course before posting snaps to the social media platform. To date, thousands of photos have been posted geotagging the kitschy Elizabeth Street restaurant.
“People love to post the restaurant on Instagram,” Quaglia agrees. “I’m just happy that people love it!”

Other restaurants where the saccharine pink decor is good enough to eat include Cafe Henrie on Forsyth Street with its neon signs and celebrity clientele, Williamsburg cafe Carthage Must Be Destroyed, which also offers yoga classes, fuchsia-tinted Asian joint The Lucky Bee and the bright and bodacious Rosa Mexicano and Royal Bangladesh.
