Adele visits the Neighbours street like every other Brit who goes to Melbourne

After her final Melbourne concert at the end of her Australia leg of the Adele: Live 2017 tour, the British pop phenomenon Adele visited the fictional suburb of Erinsborough, home of Australia’s longest running TV drama, Neighbours.

The 28-year-old singer posted a snap of herself posing outside a house on Ramsay Street – which is in fact Pin Oak Court in the leafy suburb of Vermont South in Melbourne’s east. Neighbours has been a popular part of the British television landscape for just over 30 years, and has launched the careers of several Australian stars including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce and Natalie Imbruglia. The soap is famous for having more fans in Britain than Australia, showing UK viewers a daily slice of Australian suburbia since 1986, initially on BBC1 before Channel 5 snapped it up in 2008.

The ‘Neighbours Street’ is in the Melbourne itinerary for many travellers to Australia with tours running from the city centre out to the neighbourhood every weekday 30 years on. Coincidentally, Channel 5 are reportedly stalled in their negotiations with the producers of the show, Fremantle Media, which has resulted in a viewer petition to keep the show on air.

Will Adele’s love of Neighbours and her visit to Ramsay Street be the making of another generation of Brits singing the theme song quoted in her Instagram post? “Neighhhhbours, should be there for one anotherrrr. That’s when good neighhhbours become goood friennnds.”
