Best hotels and hostels in Rodrigues

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Auberge du Lagon

Down a gravel track in Jean Tac, east of Anse aux Anglais, this fine guesthouse has big-horizon views and a sense of having left the world behind. The garden needs time to grow, but the rooms have a smart-casual look that blends simplicity with carefully chosen ochre and burnt-orange hues. There's also a breezy bar and an infinity pool.

  • Top ChoiceLodging in Rodrigues

    La Belle Rodriguaise

Laval and Françoise Baptiste's inviting seaside retreat has sun-drenched rooms in charming case -style abodes, all with wonderfully unobstructed sea views. Up the hill guests will find an amoeba-shaped pool and a breezy dining room set on a sweeping veranda. There's a real warmth to the welcome here, the food is outstanding and the whole place has a wonderfully remote feel.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Kafe Marron

A block (or a rather long stone's throw through the filao trees) from Pointe Coton's quiet beach, Kafe Marron is a stylish little guesthouse that blends the traditional idea of a chambre d'hôte with the modern comforts of a quietly sophisticated B&B. Rooms have tiled floors, ample space and subtle designer touches. Run by Dorothy Lavendhomme, it's a terrific choice.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Chez Claudine

When St François was known for its end-of-the-world seclusion, this charming Tudor-style lodge was the only place to hang your hat. The well-maintained rooms have moved into a newer building out the back and are large, light and airy. Meals here are delicious, the owners are friendly and you're well placed for walks and beaches along the east coast.

  • Top ChoiceLodging in Rodrigues

    Bakwa Lodge

One of the most beautiful places to stay on the island, this all-white oasis where the road ends in Mourouk is classy, understated luxury. Large and flooded with natural light, the rooms are decorated with offcuts from old wooden pirogues, and most have both indoor and outdoor showers. The lovely beach helps make up for the lack of a swimming pool.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    La Cabane d'Ete

Adorable studio accommodation in Baie Malagache, southwest of Port Mathurin, is what's on offer here. The rooms have a hint of whitewash and bamboo about them, and the location is as far from tourist Rodrigues, such as it is, as you can get. Bookings can be made through Rotourco in Port Mathurin.

  • Top ChoiceLodging in Rodrigues

    Pirate Lodge

These attractive four- to six-person apartments are set in a scenic palm grove visited by chirping birds. The outside design incorporates colourful Creole- and French-colonial-inspired details, while the interiors are stylish and sophisticated with classy knick-knacks dotting the living rooms and fully equipped kitchens.

  • Top ChoiceLodging in Rodrigues

    Tekoma

Arguably the finest address on Rodrigues, this stunning place has supremely comfortable, free-standing cabins arrayed around a rocky headland that slopes down to a good beach, and there's a blissful sense of isolation. It also has the aim of being powered entirely by renewable energy, and the food is superb.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Le Pandanus

This excellent little guesthouse along the northwestern coast is a real find. The rooms are more warmly decorated than most in this price category and the welcome is similarly warm. The sea views from most rooms are big, wide and wonderful.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Ti Pavillon

This friendly spot, run by the same people that brought you Auberge du Lagon, welcomes guests with wallet-pleasing prices and simple digs painted in bright primary colours. The common spaces are cluttered with wonderful bits and bobs.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Mourouk Ebony Hotel

The Mourouk Ebony waits at the end of a wiggling mountain road, and is easily recognised from afar by its bright-orange roofing. The grounds feature gorgeous gardens full of orchids and wildflowers that abut the rather lovely beach. The rooms are a little like Rodrigues itself: occasionally stylish, more often rustic and slightly faded.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Cotton Bay Hotel

Still going strong after nearly 25 years in the business, charming Cotton Bay is the island's oldest hotel. The design scheme has an appealing Creole motif: floral trim, rustic wood furnishings, bamboo ceilings and tropically inspired prints adorn the rooms. Perks include a lovely pirogue-themed restaurant, outings on a private catamaran and endless streams of honey-tinged sand.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Villas Vetiver

On its own promontory of land, and with nothing to interrupt the big-sea, big-sky views, Villas Vetiver has bungalows and a villa with simple wooden furnishings, tiled floors and a tremendous sense of light and space. The property could do with a few more trees, but it does capture that wild and bare look that's so characteristic of the island.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Le Récif

Perched on the cliff just east of Anse aux Anglais, Le Récif has fabulous views from its balcony over the emerald lagoon. We reckon it's a touch overpriced in high season and it can have a vaguely abandoned air when things are quiet, but the rooms are large and the sunset views are hard to beat anywhere on the island.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Les Cocotiers

A great choice at the end of the coastal road, this friendly resort comes with an airy restaurant, an inviting swimming pool and a popular dive centre. Vaco paintings adorn the walls in some rooms, and the beds have colourful duvets to match. Service can be patchy at reception.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Le Kono Kono Bungalow Hotel

The furnishings couldn't be simpler, but there's something that we like about this place, out in Jean Tac, east of Anse aux Anglais. There's a relaxed vibe, there are big-sky panoramas and the brick-walled, tiled-floored bungalows with pastel shades are tidy.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Residence Foulsafat

High in the hills with memorable views of the infinite blue, this friendly option has five houses, each with a unique design and theme. Our favourite is the adorable honeymooners' cottage with stone walls and attached gazebo covered with gingerbread trim.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    La Paillote Creole

Simple but excellent thatched rondavels with tiled floors set in well-maintained grounds win universal acclaim from budget travellers. The garden needs time to mature, but the owners are friendly and there's a wonderfully end-of-the-road feel here.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Coco Villas

Simple rooms at this family-run place make a quieter alternative to Anse aux Anglais just down the road. Rooms are nothing special, but the price is about right. Oh, and fabulous sunsets right outside your door.

  • Lodging in Rodrigues

    Koki Boner

The two-bedroom bungalows here have a terrific location, and while they don't have a lot of character, they're modern and supremely comfortable. The beach is just across the road through the trees.
