Welcome to Sabile
It would be just another sleepy cobbled-street Latvian village, if its eccentric residents weren't on a mission to find any available method of making it unique. They tend what they claim to be the northernmost open-air vineyard, populate their squares with straw dolls and stage a carnival parade involving hilariously absurdist kynetic installations. A fascinating open-air art space is also located here. There is no particular reason to linger here for long, but you can have a few hours of pure joy, especially if you arrive during the wine festival at the end of July.
