Welcome to Zagros Mountains

The Zagros Mountains are home to Persians, Loris and Kurds as well as to a large number of nomads (primarily Bakhtiyari and Qashqa’i). Nomadic traditions weave in and out of the daily rhythms of mountain culture making it a fascinating place to observe the differences between the cultivated uplands and the interspersed desert plains.

Few people speak English, public transport is infrequent or nonexistent, and accommodation is basic in this part of Iran, qualifying the region as genuinely 'off the beaten track'.
