    The city’s best-stocked bookshop, Rachna doubles as an alternative cultural hub with talks, events, screenings and an excellent cafe (Temi tea ₹50, coffee ₹90–₹150). The cafe is almost unique in serving fragrant fresh coffee sourced from Sikkimese smallholders. Upstairs there are four fine-value B&B rooms (₹1790 to ₹2000).

    This government initiative teaches marketable crafts in workshops at Zero Point, along with a warehouse-sized 'emporium' selling its products. Tempting souvenirs at very fair prices include brightly decorated bamboo pen-pots (₹100), toy red pandas (₹100 to ₹500), handmade paper products and pretty purses, along with traditional Sikkimese costumes and furniture.
