Welcome to Kedarnath
Dedicated to Shiva, Kedarnath temple is revered by Hindus, and pilgrims journey from all over India to take the long trek (or horse ride) up. To get here you'll walk alongside them on the stone-paved pathway etched into the steep slopes of the canyon cut by the Mandakini, following the river upstream.
Kedarnath was at the epicentre of a devastating flood in 2013. Thousands of people including pilgrims, locals, porters and horse guides, perished. Kedarnath village is slowly recovering and life is springing up around the wreckage, with shops, restaurants and hotels reestablishing themselves among the rubble and damaged buildings.
Kedarnath closes mid-November to late April.
