Museo Regional de Arqueología

The Pacific Slope

Facing La Democracia's main plaza – along with the expected church and palacio municipal (city hall) is this small modern museum that houses some fascinating local archaeological finds. The undoubted star of the show is an exquisite jade mask. Small figures, yokes used in juego de pelota (the Mayan ball game), relief carvings and other objects make up the rest of the collection.
