Welcome to Loutra Edipsou
The sedate spa resort of Loutra Edipsou is the most visited spot in northern Evia, with grandiose wellness-focused hotels sprinkled along its waterfront, which gazes south towards the mainland. The therapeutic sulphur waters here bubble up at up to 80°C and have been celebrated since antiquity, though it wasn't until the mid-20th century that they enjoyed peak popularity. Famous swimmers have included Aristotle, Strabo, Plutarch, Plinius, Sylla and Churchill. Today, the town continues to draw a stream of mostly mature medical tourists and is known for hosting the country's most up-to-date hydrotherapy and physiotherapy centres.
