Welcome to Hanau & Steinau
The towns of Hanau (population 95,370) and Steinau (population 10,563) are located so close to Frankfurt am Main that it is easy to visit them on day trips. Lying at the strategically important junction of the Main and Kinzig Rivers, Hanau is the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm and site of an important Napoleonic battle in 1813. Closer to Fulda than Frankfurt, Steinau (an der Strasse) is situated on the historic trade road between Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig. The historical importance of neither town is reflected in a wealth of antique attractions (Hanau was almost obliterated in WWII), but both have one or two attractions to repay a visit.
