Welcome to Côte Vermeille
The main town here is Collioure. Three kilometres to its south, Port-Vendres, Roussillon’s only natural harbour and deep-water port, has been exploited ever since Greek mariners roamed the rocky coastline. Until the independence of France’s North African territories in the 1960s, it was an important port linking them with the mainland. It’s still a significant cargo and fishing harbour, however, welcoming everything from small coastal chuggers to giant deep-sea vessels bristling with radar. There’s also a large leisure marina, and lots of pleasant walks around the coastline nearby.
