Sala de Conciertos José White

Top choice in Matanzas

Restoration of this 1876 building abutting Hotel Velazco was completed in 2014 and every inch, flourish and cornicing of its former glory is well worth a lingering look. Fitting for a building that formerly hosted the city symphony orchestra, classical music makes up the majority of its performances, although there is also that made-in-Matanzas dance danzón (ballroom dance) performed here.

The concert hall melds modern and traditional and is first-class. A courtyard bar with a huge tile mural complements proceedings.
