The oft-skipped-over town of Momjan (Momiano in Italian) in northwestern Istria, just south of the Slovenian border, is situated on a hilltop commanding incredible vistas of Istria's interior and the sea. A 15th-century church and the ruins of a 13th-century clifftop castle offer mild historical interest – otherwise it's worth a quick stop-off for a meal, wine tasting and a spot of aimless wandering on the way elsewhere.
