Welcome to Crveni Otok & Sveta Katarina
Lovely Crveni Otok (Red Island) is only 2km from Rovinj's harbour and is popular with day trippers. Only 1.9km long, the island is actually comprised of two islets, Sveti Andrija (St Andrew) and Maškin, connected by a causeway. In the 19th century, Sveti Andrija became the property of Baron Hütterott, who transformed it into a luxuriantly wooded park. Small gravel beaches, a playground and a massive resort-style hotel make it popular with families. Maškin is quieter, more wooded and has plenty of secluded coves. Bring a mask for snorkelling around the rocks.
Nearer to Rovinj, just outside the harbour, lies Sveta Katarina (St Catherine), a small island forested by a Polish count in 1905 and now also home to a large hotel.
