Icaraizinho, as it's affectionately known, is the loveliest of the small beach spots between Fortaleza and Jericoacoara. Its wide beach of fine sand sits on a beautiful palm-lined curve of the bay, with a few fishing boats on the water, high dunes rising to the west, and rarely more than a handful of people in sight. It's reminiscent, some say, of Jericoacoara as it was 25 years ago, although the surrounding scenery is not quite as spectacular.
The small town has a selection of excellent pousadas (guesthouses) and some good restaurants. It's a top windsurfing and kitesurfing spot. Being located 190km from Fortaleza, Icaraí is mercifully beyond the reach of most day-tour buses and there's wonderfully little going on here. It's a fantastic place to chill and explore nature away from the crowds.
