4-Day Flinders Ranges Outback Tour from Adelaide

Day 1 (LD):  This morning you will be collected from your accommodation around 7.30am to commence your 4 day tour into the majestic Flinders Ranges.  Stop at the old copper mining town of Burra for morning tea, and then Orroroo for lunch. Stop at Kanyaka Station Homestead and see what's left of this once massive sheep and cattle station.  Then it's on to Hawker and finally Rawnsley Park Station, your home for the next two nights.  After a later afternoon Sunset on the Chace tour, where you'll watch the sun set while enjoying local wines and canapes, you'll enjoy a delicious 2-course dinner in a converted woolshed, aptly named the Woolshed Restaurant.Day 2 (BLD):  Join the Daybreak Loop Walk to spectacular Rawnsley Bluff, and learn how the ancient sea floor has been uplifted and eroded to create this amazing landscape, before enjoying a hearty bush breakfast.  Afterwards spend the day touring around the Southern Flinders Ranges including local sights, picturesque gorges and walks.  This evening enjoy a sumptuous 3-course lamb tasting dinner with matching wines hosted by Rawnsley Park's Farm Manager (vegetarians will be catered for).Day 3 (BLD):  After breakfast in your villa or unit, there will be time to take an early morning scenic flight over Wilpena Pound to gain an appreciation of the scale and beauty of this area (additional cost). Depart Rawnsley Park and travel through the small outback copper town of Blinman.  Leave the bitumen here and traverse through the beautiful Parachilna Gorge, with ancient river beds, towering ghost gums and spectacular rock formations, arriving at Australia's #1 Outback Hotel, the Prairie Hotel.  Famous for its innovative dishes with Australian native and Flinders Ranges Feral Food twists, you'll enjoy one of their signature Antipasto Platters for lunch.  Then it's on to Nilpena Station for a fascinating tour of the working Cattle Station and the Ediacaran Fossil Site, where you will see fossils that are over 500 million years old, preserved in the ancient sea-floor.  Finish the day off with sunset drinks and canapes on the verandah at the Prairie Hotel, followed by a stunning 3-course a la carte dinner.Day 4 (BL):  On your last day of touring, enjoy a hearty breakfast before travelling south to the old railway township of Quorn for morning tea.  Then it's on to Paulett Wines, nestled in the Polish Hill River region of the picturesque Clare Valley.  Enjoy lunch at their Bush Devine Cafe, before heading back to Adelaide, arriving at approximately 5.30pm.

DAY 1 Adelaide to Flinders RangesLeave the beautiful city of Adelaide behind and head north along the eastern sides of the Gulf Saint Vincent & Spencer Gulf.Visit historical coastal towns and learn about South Australia’s rich maritime history of long jetties and old sailing boats. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Mt Remarkable National Park surrounded by 600 million year old mountains with an abundance of native wildlife. If you enjoy bush walking we will take you on a one hour guided walk with spectacular views over the mountain ranges and Spencer Gulf. Continue our journey across the Flinders Ranges (one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth) visiting the historic township of Quorn. Wander around town, say gidday to the friendly locals, photograph the old buildings and famous railway station. Quorn was once the start of the old Ghan Railway and has been a popular filming site for the Australian film industry since it’s inception. Aussie greats filmed in this quintessential outback town include ‘The Shiralee’, ‘Sunday Too Far Away’, ‘The Sundowners’ and many more. Heading out along the dirt tracks to Warren Gorge we search for the rare Yellow-footed Rock Wallabies that live amongst the rugged rock formations in this beautiful area. Investigate old ghost towns that are a witness and testament to the hardships of our pioneering ancestors. You will arrive at Merna Mora Station in the late afternoon. This working sheep station is situated on the south western side of the famous Wilpena Pound. Enjoy a delicious Aussie barbeque then sit back and relax around the campfire. Adelaide To Coober Pedy 7 DAY SMALL GROUP 4WD SAFARI

DAY 18am: Adelaide pick up from your accommodation then head north along the eastern side of Spencer Gulf stopping at historical coastal towns. Learn our rich maritime history maybe take a walk down the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere at Port Germain. This was once a bustling port for sail ships & sea farers. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Mt Remarkable National Park surrounded by stunning 600 million year old rock formations and home to an abundance of native wildlife. If you enjoy bushwalking, we will take you on a short guided walk along beautiful tree-lined creek beds with spectacular views over the area. (Optional) DAY 2Travel up the Explorer Highway to Woomera and visit the old rocket range and Military Base. As we head North, East of the A.P.Y. aboriginal lands take a break at the lookouts and get photos of Lake Gairdner and Lake Heart Salt Lakes. Onto Coober Pedy the largest opal mining field in the world.  DAY 3 Spend a leisurely morning visiting underground churches and other places of interest. After lunch we depart Coober Pedy for William Creek. You will cross the famous dingo fence (The longest man made structure in the world. This helps to keep the wild dogs up north away from the sheep stations further down.) Travel along the red sand hill tracks through Anna Creek station arriving at the remote William Creek Hotel and settle into your comfortable cabin DAY 4 Continue our epic journey down the famous Oodnadatta Track, following the historic route of the Cameleers and the Old Ghan Railway. This area has a rich history of Aboriginal culture and pioneering settlements, including many ghost towns. Check out Lake Eyre South, which at its lowest point is 11m below sea level with the Lake Eyre Basin approximately the size of Belgium. DAY 5 This morning we travel a few Kilometres east and explore the old Beltana Township with its well preserved old Ghan railway station. This is where Rev John Flynn of the inland mission lived. Then follow the bush track along the old railway track to the Prairie Hotel at Parachilna. DAY 6 You will have the opportunity to take a guided walk following the tree-lined creek beds to Wangara Lookout that offers magnificent views into the pound itself. Explore the ancient mountain ranges including Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges DAY 7 Enjoy a well-deserved sleep-in departing Wipena Pound at approx. 9 am. Visit Hawker and Quorn where many a classic Aussie film has been made including Sunday Too Far away Breaker Morant.
