Week 9: Buenos Aires
If you’re a cow, the last place in the world you want to be is Buenos Aires, Argentina. This place is the beef capital of the world, so much so that the yearly consumption per capita is about 65kg - that’s more than a baby calf! At first I was concerned for the poor animals. How could they possibly survive against such a veracious appetite for beef? 'I'm Juicy' cow-shaped figurines were stuck into my steak, stuffed cows stood outside restaurants and even my plate in one restaurant was the shape of a cow. It made me sad for the animal, but on the other hand it made me hungry because this was the tastiest beef I had ever eaten. It was indescribable. Every bite was like heaven.
Another thing I loved about Buenos Aires is that despite all the trouble it’s seen, the people are really proud of their city and its four glamour icons: Soccer, Maradona, Evita and Steak. The city that once had five presidents take office over just ten days and experienced a crash not that long ago is looking up.
