Once known as Uncompahgre, Delta is the gateway to the north rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. It’s a small crossroads town that travelers to southwest Colorado can hardly miss, though in recent times its population has doubled. It's also home to a large state prison, which along with a number of empty storefronts, may lend to the town's general lack of sparkle. It's worth checking out the lovely postwar-style murals along Main St, which depict the region's agricultural tradition.
