Welcome to Afrodisias
The remoteness of Afrodisias, out in the Anatolian hinterland among Roman poplars, green fields and warbling birds, safeguards its serenity from the masses. Afrodisias may not have fine individual ruins to match those of Turkey's famous archaeological site Ephesus, but it wins for sheer scale, and its on-site museum is impressive too, housing many of the site's treasures. The site is relatively untended, with some side paths disappearing into thickets and bramble, and with luck you could have it almost to yourself, creating the exotic sensation of discovering lost ruins.
