While the riverside township of Sorsele that sits on the E45 may be small, the municipality of Sorsele is anything but. It stretches east to west for 200km and is 50km wide, including the free-flowing Vindelälven and wild expanses of the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve. This is popular country for outdoors enthusiasts and hikers, fishers and winter sports people who flock here throughout the year.
Sorsele township is a good base, but to head into the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve, you'll want to travel 88km northwest up the dead-end road to Ammarnäs, one of the exit/entry points for the Kungsleden. Inlandsbanen trains stop in Sorsele twice daily in summer, one heading in each direction, and the Inlandsbanen museum is here.
