Comida Independente

Príncipe Real, Santos & Estrela

This sustainably focused market has a lot going for it: free-range, preservative-free charcuterie from the Algarve, Vinhais and elsewhere; a 160-strong wine inventory, 80% of which are natural; organic medronho (Portuguese fruit brandy); gourmet Pudim abade de Priscos from Braga (a decadent flan swarming with egg yolk, sugar, 20-year-old port and cured ham); and gorgeous Caldas da Rainha ceramics.

Everything has been painstakingly curated direct from some of Portugal's most interesting producers. It's a fantastic spot to sit down with a natural wine and cheese plate (€12 for one person, €22 for two) and shoot the breeze with the passionate owners and staff.
