Welcome to Leimebamba
This convivial cobblestoned town – often spelled ‘Leymebamba’ – lies at the head of the Río Utcubamba, with a mellow town square and ample local attractions. It has an endearingly laid-back allure that is maintained by its relative isolation: it is flanked by towering mountains and the nearest big city is a couple of hours away via a narrow road. Horses are still a popular form of transport around town and the friendliness of the locals is legendary in the region. Surrounded by a multitude of archaeological sites from the Chachapoyas era, peaceful, community-focused Leimebamba is a great place to base yourself for a few days while exploring the province.
