Seahub.com, a cruise deal site, studied more than 1.8 million posts tagged from ships and ports around the world to find out what destinations, activities and time of year are most popular for social-media savvy cruisers.
It’s hardly surprising that the Caribbean has the most popular destinations for travellers heading out on a cruise, since guests can check out everything from the high-end British Virgin Islands to the old-school cool of Havana. The most Instagram mentions come from the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Florida, while other popular spots are California, Mexico, Greece, Croatia, and Australia.
When it comes to what are the most popular cruise lines on Instagram, Royal Caribbean was tagged the most times. That could be due to the incredible ships that have been launched in the last year or so, like the Harmony of the Seas, a massive ship that has robot bartenders, a ten-storey waterslide and much more to keep travellers entertained. It’s followed by Carnival Cruise and Disney Cruise line.
Since food and drink may be the biggest draw for some cruisers, they also determined just want people are posting about when they hit the ships. The three foods that are dragging guests back to the buffet and to post photos on Instagram are seafood, dessert and chocolate. Cocktails are the most popular drink, followed by wine and beer.
