Meander down the Indre Valley along the tiny D84, passing mansions, villages and troglodyte caves, and 7km east of Azay-le-Rideau you'll come to sweet Saché. Once home to American sculptor Alexander Calder (one of his red-and-blue mobiles sits in the town square), it still celebrates the life of long-time resident Honoré de Balzac (1799–1850), author of La Comédie Humaine.
