Private Tour to Frederiksborg Castle

Visit: Easy Travel, Helsinki, UusimaaEXCURSION TO THE FREDERIKSBORG CASTLE Frederiksborg Palace is situated on three islets in the castle lake in Hillerod, north of Copenhagen. The palace, which is surrounded by the beautiful Frederiksborg Palace Garden, was built in the Dutch Renaissance style at the beginning of the 1600s by King Christian 4. The palace was built in Dutch Renaissance style by King Christian 4 in the 17th century. After a devastating fire in the middle of the 19th century, the palace was rebuilt by the owner of the Carlsberg Breweries, J. C. Jacobsen. The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Palace exhibits the history of Denmark and houses a considerable collection of portraits, historical paintings and modern art. At the museum you will find portraits of both Johan Friedrich Struensee and Queen Caroline Mathilde made by the artist Jens Juel, as well as other paintings by artists like Karel van Mander, Wilhelm Marstrand, P.S. Kroyer and Niels Strob?k. A new permanent exhibition shows the history of the castle and the museum - including parts of the castle, previously closed to the public. Here you can see original sculptures and decorations from before the fire in 1859. The palace chapel survived when the rest of the palace burnt down in 1859 and today it stands as in Christian 4's time. The Palace Garden was laid out as a romantic landscaped garden. In the garden you will find King Frederik 2's small Bath House Palace (Badstueslot) which is occasionally used by the Royal Family for hunt lunches. The grounds also include the baroque style garden that was recreated in 1996 according to the original drawings by J.C. Krieger from 1725. Especially worth noting are the royal monograms executed in boxwood, the historical flowers and the festive cascades.

Kings & Castles Tour - A Tour of Royal North Sealand

Kings & Castles Tour -  A Tour of Royal North SealandJoin us in a full day's tour where we travel up the coast road to Rungsted, where Karen Blixen was born and then drive inland, along Danish country roads, to Hillerød, where you can see the beautiful Frederiksborg Castle, built by King Christian IV. When finished in 1620, it was the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia. Today frederiksborg contains the largest collection of portrait paintings in Denmark. There are also two lovely gardens. One is the Baroque Garden, laid out in the formal French Baroque Style, the other, the more natural garden, in English Romantic Style.   After our visit to Hillerød, we drive through the woodland of north Sealand to Fredensborg Palace, where we will have a photo stop. Fredensborg means 'Peace Palace' in English. It was built for King Frederik IV between 1720 and 1726 and was where the peace treaty between Denmark and Sweden was signed, in 1720. This treaty has, over the years, turned two enemy countries into firm and steadfast friends.   Finally we drive to Helsingør, which is known as Elsinor in English. Here you can take a photo of Kronborg, Hamlet's Castle, built by King Frederik II in 1585. Near Kronborg is the Maritime Museum and close by is Culture Wharf, where you can enjoy smørrebrød, the famous Danish open sandwich. In Helsingør, you can walk around old narrow streets and visit the Cathedral, which dates back to the 1200s.    At the end of a full day, we then take the road back to Copenhagen and reflect on all the interesting things we have seen. Let's enjoy the Tour.
