Nangartse (སྣ་དཀར་རྩེ་; 浪卡子; Làngkǎzi) is the largest town on Yamdrok-tso and a popular lunch spot for groups headed to Gyantse. It’s not particularly attractive but there’s a small monastery just south of town, an old Tibetan quarter and a small dzong (fort) to the north (famed as the birthplace of the mother of the fifth Dalai Lama). In the summer months birdwatchers will have a field day in the surrounding lake shore and marshlands.
