The intriguing, windswept island of Neduntivu (Delft) is 10km southwest of KKD on Punkudutivu island. Around 6000 people live here, but it feels deserted. Dirt roads run through coconut-palm groves, and aquamarine water and white sand fringe the shore. Diverse flora populates the island, including neem, vines that you can swing from, and a rare, ancient baobab tree.
Of the various islands in the Jaffna region, this is the one if you simply want to leave the world behind. Unlike Nainativu, it has no important religious shrines.
In 2011 Basil Rajapaksa (the ex-president's brother) announced plans for new resorts and roads. However, the clan's fall from favour ended this threat to the island's quietude. Don't be surprised, however, if new development schemes do emerge.
