Cyclones Ofa and Val struck the peninsula in 1990 and 1991, completely destroying the village of Falealupo. The decision was made to rebuild the village further inland and the ruined village was left in tatters, though some families have since moved back to rebuild. The ruins of the Catholic church are particularly enigmatic and eerily beautiful. You may be shaken down here, even if you just want to take a photograph.
