Termas San Nicanor

Top choice in Uruguay

Surrounded by a pastoral landscape of cows, fields and water vaguely reminiscent of a Flemish painting, this is the most tranquil of Salto's hot-springs resorts. It has two gigantic outdoor thermal pools, a restaurant, and accommodations for every budget, including campsites, no-frills dorms, four-person cabins and private rooms in a high-ceilinged estancia house with large fireplaces and peacocks strolling the grounds.

Day use of the springs (8am to 10pm, available Friday to Sunday only) costs UR$250.

The signposted 12km unpaved access road leaves Ruta 3 10km south of Salto. With advance notice, you can arrange shuttle transport to the springs from Salto or Termas del Daymán (staff at Termas San Nicanor keep a list of drivers offering this service), but it's far more convenient to get here with your own wheels.
