Tremont Hotel

Chicago

Decor in the somewhat dated standard rooms of this now-independent (formerly Starwood) hotel is nothing special, but here are the Tremont’s pros: you’re steps from the Magnificent Mile in a ritzy neighborhood and the property often turns up dirt cheap on booking sites. Try asking for a room with good natural light at check-in.

Old-school touches, like the parlor that’s studded with leather chairs and has a fireplace, evoke nostalgia, as does the on-site meat-focused restaurant of former Bears coach Mike Ditka. Look elsewhere if room prices slide toward the high end of the range.
