Since 19 July, 2019 Prague’s popular pop-up market Manifesto has its second location – now in the forgotten neighbourhood of Smíchov, on the left bank of the River Vltava.
The new Manifesto takes the best from its first location in Florenc and adds a few unique bits. The food offering stays international, this time beer is the main drink – not just tank Pilsner, the sponsor of the project, but also a local microbrewery from Prague’s Vinohrady district. An oasis-like setting comes with lounge chairs and plenty of space to kick back. A shallow pool serves as the perfect retreat for hot days (and they are coming).
It’s not just about food and drinks, though. An array of DJs backed by Rock for People, a local legendary music festival, and films screened in cooperation with Red Bull will provide enough entertainment even for those who arrive at the venue with their stomachs full.
Martin Barry, the New Yorker living in Prague, has done it again by reviving an unused yard of a communal building, while drawing on history - in the 1940s there used to be a garden where people would meet for a bite as well as for various events. What’s interesting about the project is that it has sprung up in a neighbourhood largely omitted from the cool trendy things, with the sole exception of the Kavárna co hledá jméno, a hip coffee joint. Manifesto has already gained a name for itself and without doubt it’s going to attract people, locals and travellers alike, to visit this part of Prague.
Visit Manifesto Smíchov every day of the week from 11am to 10pm. No need to bring cash, since the whole operation is cashless. Bring a shirt though - after several unpleasant encounters with stag parties, bare-chested visitors will not be served. Manifesto Smíchov is going to stay at its current location until the end of winter, at which point it’ll close and reopen at another location, still at Smíchov. Rumour has it that this pop-up market will host its own little Christmas market.
