Revellers wearing costumes made of items like ropes, bones, leaves, walnuts and more took part in 'El Gallo de Carnaval' (The Carnival Rooster) of Mecerreyes on 11 February.

Mecerreyes, is located in Burgos, a northern region of Spain. There, people celebrate the pagan festival, which coincides with the many pre-Lenten festivals around the world. During the carnival period, people dress up in natural items and at the end, young revellers try to steal a rag rooster from 'El Rey' (The King). The rooster is protected by the Zarramacos, strong young men tasked with protecting the animal.
