Video footage shows the moment a slightly irate adult male elephant began chasing a cyclist down a road in West Bengal in India.

The shot was captured in the Gorumara National Park when the elephant suddenly emerged from the jungle.

Traffic stopped, while the cyclist pedalled furiously away in fear. The elephant then seemed to turn back as though to keep guard over that stretch of road.

The mystery behind the animal’s behaviour was soon revealed when suddenly from out of the jungle four other elephants suddenly emerged, clearly the elephant’s herd and family.

The elephants are protected in Gorumara Park that sits in the Himalayan foothills. Sightings of this type are not uncommon, though thankfully rarely involve such terrified cycles!
