On the northern coast of the Glencolumbcille peninsula, 9km west of Ardara, tiny Maghera has a stunning and wide, wide beach – one of the most beautiful in Ireland. If you follow the strand westward, you'll reach a rocky promontory full of caves(inaccessible at high tide). Time a visit for sunset to immerse yourself in the full magic of the beach.
Heading south from Ardara, take the second turning and look for the small hand-painted sign to 'Maghera'. If you take the first turning by mistake, you won't pass the waterfall and you'll find yourself on the wrong side and unable to get down to the beach.
