Drinking and nightlife in Maharashtra

  • Nightlife in Pune

    Badshah

This institution for faloodas (rose-flavoured drinks), sharbats (a chilled drink) and fresh juices may have been born in Bombay, but it's been at it in Pune for four decades as well. It's tough to beat its signature falooda (with cream and dry fruits) or a fresh anar (pomegranate) enjoyed on its pleasant patio on a hot day. Serves heftier Indian meals as well.

  • Nightlife in Pune

    Botequim Cervejaria

The open-air rooftop at this Brazilian-themed Koregaon Park newcomer is a supreme drinking den, offering 10 craft beer options on draught, including Pune's own excellent Great State Ale Works (who do a fine, creamy Brazilian chope – draught beer – and a New England IPA, among others).

  • Nightlife in Aurangabad

    KA Lounge

Aurangabad's one and only trendy bar-restaurant caters to the city's upwardly hip who knock back cocktails (₹350 to ₹450) – like the cool burning basil and green chilli mojito – from cosy lounge seating amid exposed brick walls. You can easily make an evening of it; the modern fusion menu (mains ₹150 to ₹690) features interesting Indian/Asian/Continental-hybrid cuisine.

  • Top ChoiceNightlife in Pune

    Independence Brewing Company

Reserve a table in the outstanding beer garden at this industrially hip craft brewery – Pune's finest – and you'll swear you're in California. The eight taps change often – look out for the Four Grain saison (a highly carbonatred pale ale), Juicy IPA, sours, the chocolate-bomb Ixcacao porter and Maharashtra's best (only?) Double IPA.

  • Nightlife in Pune

    Third Wave Coffee Roasters

This Bengaluru transplant has Punekars ditching traditional filter coffee for single origin, 100% Arabica Indian specialty espressos (₹110) and other now-ubiquitous Third Wave preparations (Aeropress, Chemex, Syphone etc). It's a big, modern space in Koregaon Park, conducive to working while enjoying creative lattes (Nutella & salted butter) or cold brews (guava chilli).

  • Nightlife in Pune

    The Daily All Day

One of Mumbai's most beloved pubs staked out a prime Koregaon Park location for its 2018 Pune opening. It's a much bigger, more diverse space than the Mumbai original and great for a bite, a sip or a bit of live music (they are one of the few in Pune supporting the local singer-songwriter scene). Good vibe all around.

  • Nightlife in Lonavla

    German Bakery Wunderbar

A youngish and hip crowd flocks to this Pune transplant for cocktails (₹190 to ₹310) and pitchers of Bira draught beer (₹630), as well as an expanded cafe menu (mains ₹220 to ₹450), all taken on a large, semi-open patio with wrought-iron deck furniture and milk-can bar stools..

  • Nightlife in Pune

    1000 Oaks

An old favourite with a cosy pub-style bar with stained glass and a charming terrace for those who prefer it quieter. Pitchers of Long Island iced tea and sangria (₹850 to ₹1700) are very popular.

  • Nightlife in Nashik

    The Foundry

Nightlife is scarce in Nashik – it's primarily a spiritual city, despite the surrounding vineyards – but this new, small club inside multipurpose BLVD (pronounce the letters, not 'boulevard') is the hotspot of choice. Pounding techno ricochets off the unfinished concrete dance floor and across a bevy of Bollywood and international movie posters, exposed air ducts and other industrial-savvy design touches.
