Welcome to West Coast
Tahiti Nui’s west coast is busier and much more touristy than the island’s eastern side. It has the greatest concentration of places to stay outside Pape’ete, plus many of the museums and major sights. The chic suburb of Puna’auia, which stretches from around PK10 to PK18, has an excellent restaurant scene and Tahiti’s best beaches (though this is not saying a lot). The most expensive homes on Tahiti are found along this stretch of coast, along the beach and high above the coast to better enjoy the breathtaking views across to Mo’orea.
Moving further away from Pape’ete, the coastline from the village of Pa’ea to Taravao is much quieter. Here you’ll find a few interesting sights as well as some decent places to sleep and eat.
