Welcome to Hakahau
‘Ua Pou’s largest settlement, Hakahau is blessed with a photogenic location. A huge bite chomped out of the fretted coastline of ‘Ua Pou’s northern coast, Hakahau Bay resembles a giant mouth about to swallow up its prey, with the iconic basalt peaks in the background. Hakahau is a relaxed coastal town blessed with a sweeping black-sand beach – fairly suitable for a dip – and wicked waves that keep local surfers happy. With a couple of pensions and useful services, it’s a convenient base. Don't miss the crafts centre if you want to buy local woodcarvings.
