4-Day Overnight Andes Trekking and Horseback Riding

Day 1: Cotopaxi National Park - Interpretation Center – Hike – Andes LandscapeLeave early in the morning and take “The volcanoes avenue” toward Latacunga. Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world (5,897 msnm) located two hours from Quito. The Cotopaxi National Park allows us the opportunity to hike around the lake at foothills then we’ll visit the Interpretation´s Center where we’ll learn about the flora and the fauna of the park and the moors protected areas. After, we’ll climb the volcano by vehicle until 4,500 meters from the parking area we’ll walk up until 4,800 meters where is a refuge and from there continue up to the glaciers 200 meters more, of course all plans depend on weather and national park restrictions. Overnight in Isinlivi - Llullu Llama Lodge Day 2: Isinlivi / Chugchilan - Hike - Andes Landscape - Toachi CañonAfter breakfast you head to Chugchilan with our  guide, the next village on our trip. Descent 400m. Ascent 300m. Distance 12 km. 4 hours hike. We will go down into the warm canyon of Rio Toachi and have some nice hours hiking and relaxing at the riverbed before going the last meters up to Chugchilan. On the way you can take a horseback-riding trip or hike on hidden paths through pristine cloudforest which lead to ridges with spectacular Andes view, and visiting a local cheese store (if open) on route. During this 5-hour hike you will have excellent views on the Toachi Canyon, and you will get good impressions what’s life like on the countryside in the Andes. After lunch, return to Quito

Quilotoa Hiking Private 3-Day Tour with Local Communities

Day 1 (L)After hotel pickup early in the morning, you will board a vehicle at about 7:30am and head to Quilotoa. You will drive south of Quito through the Avenue of the Volcanoes and pass by the towns of Latacunga and Pujilí. On the way, you will stop to visit an indigenous local house from the “Paramos”. Here, you will observe their clothes and customs, but most importantly you will visit their typical indigenous house made of straw. Share some moments with them, talking, watching and learning about their life and how they prepare the soil to sow. Then, you will head to visit the town of Tigua, famous for its naive paintings. Continue the drive up to Quilotoa volcano, where you will be able to descend to the lake located inside the crater or just walk around the crater for 3 hours. You will cross the Rio Toachi Canyon and then head back up to get to the road that takes you to Chugchilan. During this 5-hour hike, you will have excellent views on the Toachi Canyon, and you will get good impressions what life is like on the countryside in the Andes. Accommodation in Chugchilan at a local lodge.Day 3: (B) (L)After breakfast, you leave with your guide towards Isinlivi, the next village on your trip. Enjoy a 4-hour hike going down into the warm canyon of Rio Toachi and relaxing at the riverbed before going the last meters up to Isinlivi. During the hike, you will descend 400 meters with an ascent of 300 meters, covering a distance of 7 miles (12 kilometers). Enjoy lunch and then return to Quito.

6-Day Hiking in the Ecuadorian Andes

Day 1: Trekking in Isinlivi (L,D) Today we'll have very nice car ride from Quito to the avenue of volcanoes; including the Pasochoa, Rumiñahui, Illinizas and others. After arriving in Isinlivi, we'll enjoy our lunch and go for our first trekking exploration. Trekking time: 3hour Accommodation: Hostal Llullu Llama Day 2: Trekking through the Toachi Canyon & Chugchilan (B,L,D) The magic Andean mountain landscapes inspire us today on a trek along the Toachi canyon. We'll hike down to the canyon of the Toachi River and then back up to the main road that will take us to Chugchilan, a small town located on the middle of the Quiltoa loop. In the afternoon we can explore the village. Trekking time: 4hour Accommodation: Hostal Mama Hilda Day 3: Chugchilan to Quilotoa (B,L,D) After breakfast, we'll begin our hiking adventure for 11km (6,9 miles) on small trails blazed by the mountain people and still used by locals to transport products and to travel across canyons to reach neighboring communities. We'll hike down across impressive canyons to later climb back up to the top of the crater rim, where you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Quilotoa Lake. Trekking time: 4.5-hours Accommodation: Hosteria Shalala Day 4: Trekking to the Quilotoa Crater Lake (B) After breakfast, we'll take a hike down to the base of the Quilotoa crater. Following this path, you will have an awesome view of the lake and many chances to take pictures of the turquoise water-filled caldera. In the afternoon we get a transfer to the area of Riobamba, located in the central part of the Ecuadorian highlands. Trekking time: 2.5-hours Accommodation: Chimborazo lodge Day 5: Chimborazo Highest Volcano and Ba ños Hot Springs (B,L) Early in the morning, we'll drive through valleys and farming villages towards the Chimborazo Volcano, the highest mountain in Ecuador with an elevation of 6310 meters above sea level, whose summit is the world farthest point from the center of the earth. On the hike to the glacier, we can spot animals such as the Andean condor, cara-cara, hummingbirds, and the timid wild Vicuñas. In the evening we will soak in the famous hot springs of Baños and experience the thriving night life of this town. Trekking time: 2.5-hour Accommodation: La Floresta Hotel Day 6: Hike to the Road of Waterfalls (B) Baños is very well known for its spectacular location right on the foothills of the Tungurahua active volcano. This morning we'll hit the road of the waterfalls. The first stop will be at the Bride's Veil waterfall where we'll take the Tarabita (cable car) to get across the Pastaza River. Then we'll hike down for 1-hour to the Pailon del Diablo waterfall, the second highest in Ecuador. In the afternoon drive back to Quito.

4 Day Quilotoa Hostel Hopping Hike and Cotopaxi Volcano

ITINERARY DAY 1 (L,D):QUITO – COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK – ISINLIVI TOWNEarly in the morning your guide and transportation will pick you up to head south along the Avenue of the Volcanoes. You will be an entire day at the Cotopaxi National Park visiting the museum and enjoying a hike through this wonderful world of the Ecuadorian paramo. Visit the Limpiopungo Lake and continue to the refuge at 5,897 meters above sea level. The perfect cone-shaped mountain, covered in glaciers is rising heavenwards and with good weather, you can watch over almost all the peaks in the country. Afterwards you will have a lovely night staying over at Isinlivi town. DAY 2 (B,L,D):ISINLIVI – CHUGCHILANToday you will go hiking for approx. 4-5 hours. After breakfast we will prepare the hike by putting the luggage on good looking, healthy horses. It is a comfortable trek going up and down, walking along Toachi River by crossing hamlets and cultivate valleys. An opportunity to dive into the life of local people and to enjoy the lovely Andean landscapes. We will go down to the canyon and from here a three kilometer climb until to reach the adorable town of Chugchilán. This small town is surrounded by a rustic environment full of authenticity. In the afternoon you are able to walk its few blocks by yourself. DAY 3 (B,L,D):CHUGCHILAN – QUILOTOA – TIGUAAfter breakfast we will get ready for a full day of hiking, approx. 5-6 hours. If you are inexperienced, you might need more time. The hike will go down until we reach Rio Sihui. We will cross footbridges and pass small villages such as Guamaya town, a perfect place to admire the Canyon walls and its complex structure. After the long journey we will reach the loop of Quilotoa lake. You will be able to take many beautiful pictures of this volcanic crater filled by an exquisite, emerald colored lake. This is one of the best treks in this area because of the stunning views of the lake. If your physical condition is not well, there is also the option to hike around the lake instead of going down to the lake itself. This will take less physical effort. Afterwards a local pickup car will take you to an old but charming hacienda to spend the afternoon with a local indigenous family. You can watch them milking their cows, ride a llama or just enjoy the ambiance. DAY 4 (B):TIGUA – QUITO OR SOUTH OF ECUADORToday our private transportation will pick you up after breakfast to take you back to Quito or to drop you off at the Latacunga bus station to go to the south of Ecuador. It is optional to go to your final destination with a private car, just ask (Extra cost).

We'll descen to the Toachi River and follow this up stream. You'll slowly climb up the canyon, crossing the Rio Sigui Canyon to arrive to Guayama town where there is a chance to have a short siesta. Continue hiking up through Andean crops and local houses, after this exertion you will find your reward as we reach the loop of the lake. Once you are here, you'll have a chance to take pictures of this volcanic crater filled by a beautiful emerald lake. Lodging will at Shalala community lodge.Hiking time: 5-6 hoursMeals: breakfast, lunch, dinnerDAY 5: TREK QUILOTOA TO TIGUA VALLEYToday prepare yourselves for a 5-6 hour hike to Tigua Valley. First you will walk by the crater edge with impressive views of the lagoon inside, until you descend into the canyon again. Passing through the fields of small private farms, we will end our trek at the local hacienda at Tigua where lunch will be served.
