The volcanic tube of Cueva de Las Palomas, also known as ‘The volcanic tube of Todoque’, is a lava tube located between the towns of Las Manchas and Todoque in Los Llanos de Aridane locality. It has been declared as a place of natural interest by UNESCO, and as a natural monument by the Government of the Canary Islands, making it part of the Canary Network of Protected Natural Spaces.The Cueva de Las Palomas cave was formed as a result of the volcanic eruption of San Juan Volcano in 1949. It has more than 10 openings that provide natural light at different points of the route, being some of these former fumaroles through which there were lava and hot sulphurous gases leaking during the formation of the tube. The tube’s dimension is around 3 meters wide per 560 meters length approximately. Its scientific interest is eminently geological and is increased by its biological importance since it hosts a peculiar fauna of invertebrates.Take this chance to admire this incredible and unique lava tube in La Palma. Guided Walking Route to Caldera de Taburiente

La Palma is the ideal island for hiking. This route of 16 km, 100m of ascent and 850m of descent is of high level.An adventurous hike through the National Park! Inside the about 9 km wide gigantic crater we walk downhill, starting at 1,000 m above sea level through forests of pinetrees, endemic in the Canary Islands Archipelago. We reach the Taburiente River - the only stream of the Canary Islands which has water all year round.Hiking through the land Acero with the holy rock of the aboriginal people called Idafe, we reach the Barranco de Los Angustias ravine which surprises us with its geological curiosities created by submarine volcanic eruptions.The bed of the Barranco de las Angustias marks the border of the locality of Tijarafe with the localities of Tazacorte and Los Llanos de Aridane. It was declared as Natural Park of the Barranco de Las Angustias in 1987 and reclassified as a Protected Landscape in 1994. The Barranco de Las Angustias is characterized by its rocky and steep walls and rocky vegetation. In the highest area there are also cedars and pines. There is even a possibility to bathe. This route begins at 09:30 hours and lasts 6 hours (including stops). The meeting point is Los Llanos de Aridane · Bus station.
